Gender Socialization and Policing by Parents [Video]

In this short clip, three children dance to a Beyoncé song on the radio.  The boy’s father tells him that the boy “isn’t a single lady” (and therefore shouldn’t be dancing), which devastates the boy and upsets the two girls sitting next to him.  I use this clip to illustrate the policing of gender and gender socialization.
